Protecting Your Home the Easy Way: Home Security Window Bars
July 31, 2008
Are you interested in installing home security window bars? The initial step in selecting home window security bars is figuring out how they are going to be used. Will the bars be applied for safety reasons (to prevent kids and pets from going out windows) or is protection the reason (discourage and prevent burglary or home invasion)?
Home security window bars are available in three ways: fixed, hinged and removable. Picking out the correct style is an issue of utilization. Saw-resistance and tamper resistive hardware are other considerations.
Fixed home security window bars don’t open up. They come in a large assortment of sizes and are typically the cheapest style. House and business owners may select from basic designs, ornamental designs or even fancy luxury styles.
Hinged window security bars can be swung out from the window which they are attached to so the window can be cleaned. Because they are able to be opened, hinged bars can be easily locked shut using a lock, such as a padlock. They also are available in a multitude of sizes.
Removable home security window bars are pretty self-explanatory. These types of bars can be installed and then later taken down by the homeowner should he/she decide they no longer need or want the bars on their window.
Once a decision is made on the type of window bar to purchase, the next step is to size the bars to properly fit the window(s). In order for security bars to fit, measurements must be taken of the window opening. This is the length measuring the inside of the window frame.
Home security bars are able to be acquired from a variety of stores and companies. You can also find them available over the internet from home security specialty stores and auction websites. People who are considering putting on their security bars themselves can get materials from any qualified supplier.
House and business owners who choose to pay a home window security bar provider to size and install each window will want to choose a respected company. The company shouldn’t mind providing references or even the names and phone numbers of satisfied customers.
It is absolutely essential to choose a high quality window security bar. They ought to be made up of saw-resistant, hardy materials. Any bar that may be easily destroyed or abstracted obviously doesn’t furnish a great deal of security.

Not every home security window bar is produced equally. Bars should be fabricated of saw-resistant, tough materials. A bar that could easily be deformed, fractured, sawed or taken off isn’t providing satisfactory safety.
I Just Moved, Now What?
July 31, 2008
So, where do you start? What do you want the theme to be? Maybe beach theme bedrooms, nautical theme design, country themed? When you look at magazines what designs do you see that catch you eye? Do you look through Elle Decor, Home Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens or Metropolitan Home. These are some different styles.
After you’ve decided on the theme the next thing is to start with the furniture. That is the biggest and hardest to move and place. Move it to where you think but then get a second opinion from an San Diego interior designer or San Diego interior decorator like me and re-work the room and the colors you want. Think about the feel of the room. What colors do you like and especially do not like. That’s important - what is important? Photos? Art, etc. People collect for a reason. Let’s show off your collection! That is why you bought it in the first place! Also, have fun, this is your home, not your business. This is the place to relax and enjoy!
When you use the services of an interior designer moving can be less stressful. A good interior designer like me has a suggested list of people from an housekeeper to an electrician. You name it I probably have them on my speed dial list.
When you choose the colors that you like, have in mind the colors that your couple (if you are married) likes too. Maybe you couple likes cool tones like blues, greens etc and you like warm tones. There are ways to blend those colrs together to make a seamless fit. That’s another reason why working with an interior design firm is the best.
Now that you learned some new tips, have fun working in your new home. Remember that using the help of an interior designer will make moving less stressful to you and your loved ones.
Small Renovations With A Few Great Bathroom Design Ideas
July 31, 2008
When you have a few good bathroom design ideas ready to go, you may find yourself running into some small projects along the way. With small bathroom renovations, you can find yourself with major headaches quickly when there are small problems that end up being larger problems including those with plumbing and electrical problems.
The size of the bathroom itself is not necessary going to help you to stay within a budget, unless you plan ahead. When Size Hurts One of the many troubles people have with bathroom design ideas is handling problems around the small size. You may find that there is not enough space in the area and this will cause delays as well as problems getting started.
More so, you will be limited to where things can be moved. Even the door may be too small to get large bathtubs into it. In some construction jobs, the final walls were not put in until all of the fixtures and tubs were in place, which means that your home could have been built around that tub! Another problem with the small space is the floor covering and wall covering. While you will need less, you may find that the tight space limits the area where you can put it in, and makes the cutting and fitting job more difficult than it should be. You may need additional space in another section of the home to get the cutting done.
Floor Plan Changes
In some small bathroom designs, it may become impossible to change the layout of the bathroom. It may be that there is only one wall that is large enough to accommodate the bathtub in that area. If you try to move it to another area, you may not have enough room for something else. When considering your bathroom design ideas, keep in mind that you do need to consider how the layout can be changed successfully.
In most cases, small changes in the layout and bathroom design can happen in a small bathroom renovation. In other situations, they may need to stay, which may limit what you can do to updating fixtures and improving the overall appearance of the room. Still, it may not fit your overall goal. To make the room seem larger, brighten up the colors you select from the walls and the flooring. This gives it the appearance of looking larger and will improve the overall look.

Getting The Perfect Desk For Your Office
July 31, 2008
The Important Role a Desk Plays In Your Home Office
Today more people than ever are starting their own business as their main source of income or in addition to their regular job as a means of supplementing their income. These people often have their business in their home and therefore have an office of some sort.
Whether you go with fancy or casual furniture, one of the first pieces of furniture you’ll get will be a desk. A desk is probably the most important piece of furniture in your home office.
Setting Up Your Home Office
Many people choose to start their own business at home as a way to get away from the everyday hassle of working elsewhere in an office, factory or where ever. They don’t even understand the importance of having an office, much less a desk. They soon discover that having their own business can be demanding and very stressful, especially without proper organization. The best way to have organization is with details of your business. These details will need to be stored somewhere and a desk in the optical choice.
Make Your Home Office Work
The one mistake many home owners make is not taking their “job” or home business serious enough. They don’t want to invest the time and money into putting in an office so they’ll have their own space for their business. Regardless of what type of business you own, you will need to have paperwork, supplies, invoices, tax forms, etc. These are all important parts of a business and need to be kept in a safe spot.
Again, the need for an office or desk presents itself. Your family may be 100% supportive of your home business, but they will still be a distraction when you are trying to work. As long as they seen you in a room they would feel as though you were “available” to them. However, if you’re in your office, they’ll realize you’re working.
A Quality Desk Makes The Difference
Even if you can’t afford to put in an entire office, you’ll want to at least get a desk to store all those important papers that are a large part of a business. You wouldn’t want one of the kids to use the back of an important invoice for a scratch pad, right? There is something about a desk that will indicate it’s “off limits” to the rest of the family and especially you when you’re sitting there. There are many styles of desks available.
If you like the idea of casual furniture, there are casual office desks that are very high quality. What ever you decide on, start shopping for your new desk as soon as possible.
Cedar Deck Railing For Your Deck
July 31, 2008
The Importance of Good Railings For Your Home
Stair railings are a necessary component of stairs that lead either to the upper or lower level of your home. This is the legal description of stair railings. They are, however, more than just that in your home. They offer protection from family members and guests accidentally falling off the stairs as well as being very complimentary to the overall decor of your home. Cedar deck railing is very popular for outdoor decks while wood or vinyls are both used inside the home.
If you’re building or remodeling your home, you’ll be amazed when you see the many different designs, styles and materials there are available for railings for deck stairs and staircases inside the home.
The style you choose will depend on your personal taste and preference. There are simple and plain designs for a casual or country design, while artistic and elegant designs can be used for a real touch of style and class. Long staircases have always been popular in homes and continue to be popular.
With the ever-popular decks being built all the time, you’ll want to take the time to decide which style of railing you want on your deck. Although a little more costly than most woods, cedar deck railing always looks great, especially with proper treatment. The most important thing when choosing deck railing is to use a material that can withstand the elements of weather, which can be very hard on certain materials.
Building Safe Railings
Besides as home decor, the main reason for stair railings is to prevent people from falling off the stairs and injuring themselves. Make sure the handrail and baluster are both sturdy enough to withstand the amount of weight that they’ll encounter.
Another safety factor is the space between the balusters, which should not be more than 4 inches. Certain laws are in effect regarding stairways and railings. Any size larger than 4 inches may cause a problem with a small child slipping through or being stuck and being injured.
Materials For Stair Railings
Many different materials can be used for building your stair railings including wood, vinyl, composites and metal. Aluminum railings can have different finishes such as powder coated, brushed silky look or brightly polished. They all look great and are a matter of personal preference. Wrought iron, brass, bronze or cast iron are all used to make metallic railings, which are also popular. Many people choose to mix and match materials.
For instance, they’ll use wood on the floor and vinyl cap rails on cedar deck railings. The most important thing to remember is to use the materials that will last the longest and withstand the most perils like weather, rotting or insects.
How To Design an Efficient Laundry Room
July 31, 2008
I tought about the home decor I wanted in the laundry room. I knew that with all the things going around I was busy all the time. The last thing on my mind was to wait for the dryer.
Solution? I bought 2 stackable dryers at Sears and bolted them together. Sounds simple? Not quite but I will explain the details. First, I make sure to buy gas dryers. Then I hired an licensed electrician and we made sure there was enough power in the laundry room for both dryers. Next, we took the exhaust hose from each dryer and connected them together so they could vent outside. I started doing this 8 years ago and I just love it!
Another important thing is that I bought a front loader washing machine. I know is more expensive but you will get recompensed later because being a front loader is amazing with energy and water consumption. I learned that the spin cycle gets more water out than the top loaders that means my dryer time is about 20 minutes. Is in that great! One more fascinating fact about this fron loader, it has a 8 hour delay button. That means I can set it up late and the laundry is ready to go in the dryer when I wake up. Awesome!
Another helpful hint is that I put a Kohler Executive Chef sink in my laundry room. Yes, this is a sink intended for the kitchen but I really like it because it has two different sink depths. This is great when you are hand washing items.
This shows where I take a problem and am able to solve it. That’s why being an interior designer is my passion!
Advantages of Iron Deck Railings
July 31, 2008
The Versatile Iron Deck Railing
Deck railings are available in a variety of styles, colors and materials. For years wood has been the material of choice for decks and deck railings. With the many changing styles of homes, the styles of decks are changing as well. Although many decks are still being made with wood, railings are often made of a different material, such as an iron deck railing. Wrought iron deck railings are made in hundreds of exquisite designs by expert craftsmen to bring a look of elegance and class to your home.
Iron Railings Are the Perfect Choice For Your Deck
The wrought iron deck railing has risen in popularity in recent years as builders and home owners are keeping with the trends of the world. Iron has risen to become the most popular choice for deck railing material. This popularity is due to the many designs, colors and styles available as well as its strength and longevity. Iron railings are available in cast iron and wrought iron.
Cast iron railings are made by melting metal and then pouring it into molds to develop the shape or design desired. Wrought iron, on the other hand, is created by heating the iron until it’s red hot. At this point, it becomes shaped into desired shapes by heavy pressure with a mechanical hammer. This process makes it extremely durable and strong as well as making it more rust resistant. For the purpose of deck railings, wrought iron is more popular than cast iron.
Multiple Advantages of Iron Railings
Although wrought iron railings may be created in a way to make them more rust resistant, they still need to be painted as a preventative measure against corrosion from moisture and weather conditions. You won’t want to use any kind of paint, as there are specific paints that are made for wrought iron and will provide an attractive and very durable finish.
To get the most protection against rusting and corrosion, you may want to get wrought iron railings that have been painted with a factory-applied powder coated finish. This finish provided a complete coating down to every little pore of the iron. When wrought iron railings get the correct protection, they are far better for deck railings than vinyl, PVC and wood as well as having the longest life span.
Another advantage to iron railings is that they come in hundreds of shapes, designs and patterns to embellish the beauty of your deck and railings. Not only will wrought iron railings enhance the beauty of your deck but your home as well.

Does Inexpensive Car Insurance Equal Low Liability limits?
July 31, 2008
Before you try to decide what the right amount of coverage should be. You first need to understand what Automobile Liability Insurance covers. There are always two factors that make up liability coverage. There is bodily injury and property damage liability.
Bodily Injury liability includes the injury that are suffered due to on automobile accidents.
1. Emergency aid at the scene
2. Doctor bills due to the accident
3. Compensation for loss of income
4. Death benefits
5. Lawyer Fees
Property damage liability protects you against damages that you cause to another in a car accident.
1. Property damage to houses as other buildings
2. Repair or replacement costs for other stationary objects
3. Vehicle repair or replacement costs
So, you are probably thinking to yourself what coverage limits should I have? Minimum liability guidelines are set by each individual state, they are usually 15,000/30,000/15,000 worth of coverage. The reason there is 3 numbers instead of two is because body injury liability is usually set in split limits but you could request a single limit of coverage.
Single vs split limit: In example above of 15,000/30,000/15,000 in coverage, this first 15,000 would cover individual injuries to others obtained from the accident you caused up to 15,000 per person. The 30,000 represents the maximum pay out for injuries caused to the while accident. If you had a single limit of bodily injury coverage it would be equal to 30,000 for the extra accident broken up as needed.
The last number in your liability coverage is always your property damage limit in the above cast is was also $15,000.
You have probably realized the disadvantage of carrying stat minimum limits 15,000/30,000/15,000. With the price of cars rising and the already high costs of property around the country it makes sense to have more than the 15,000 for property damage. With medical expenses at there highest ever it only makes sense to raise your bodily injury limits as well.
I would suggest never having coverage less than $100,000/$300,000 for bodily injury and $50,000 property damage with even higher coverage recommended. The cost to go from $15,000/$30,000 to $100,000/$300,000 or even higher shouldn’t be more than a couple of hundred dollars a year at most. I would rather spend a couple hundred dollars more per year than be stuck owing thousand due to medical bills for a person that I injured in an accident. When talking with your insurance agent always get quotes with higher liability limits so you can compare the different prices between coverage. If you need to off set cost a little and you are getting full coverage consider having a higher collision deductible, but insurance cost savings is another topic to be written about later.
Guide to Avoid Defaulting on Your Student Loan
July 31, 2008
If you default on your student loan it can cause problems with your credit rating. Lenders look at your payment record and if you default on your student loan a poor credit rating is not all you can expect; loss of income tax refunds and possible wage attachments.
If you follow a few simple guidelines you can easily avoid defaulting on your student loan. The first step to avoiding defaulted student loans is to keep the lines of communication open with your lender.
You may find it nearly impossible to go default if you immediately contact your lending institution once you face serious financial problems. My monthly repayments at one time became almost impossible to maintain because of loans acquired whilst a student.
One of my colleagues thought it was funny because the lenders couldn’t reclaim my education from me. Defaulted student loans usually start with this type of glib attitude towards the debt.
Contacting my lender was the first and most important step in avoiding going default on the debt. After all the worry, getting a deferment was quite simple and painless. The Lending Company showed me the steps that would have to be taken in order to suspend payment until a time when I could start repaying them.
I couldn’t believe how quickly it was all arranged, the debt was frozen and I would only start payments again when things had improved for me. Although defaulting on my student loan wasn’t what I wanted, I knew that other financial institutions would not be quite as accommodating. Unfortunately, it was not defaulting on my student loan that saved me because not all my creditors were as happy to assist.
Although a deferment is a useful facility, interest is still being added on whilst the loan is suspended which means in the long term you will pay more. Keeping my financial record clean of a defaulted student was more important than the extra amount I would pay. Partial payments are sometimes possible.
Paying just the interest on your loan is an option that some banks will agree to. It is not uncommon for banks to allow you to make interest payments only if you have financial problems. So the amount you owe will remain the same during this ‘holiday’ period but you will avoid a defaulted student loan.
You have to remember that many students rely on loans like this to complete their education. New students may not be able to have a loan if the percentage of defaulters is too high. Your loan provider would prefer you communicate with them if the debt is becoming a problem.
Avoiding your defaulted student loan is easier if you make alternative payment arrangements with your finance provider. Finance for higher education may then still be available for students who require it.
